Who are we
Established in 2006 and entered into the U.K. charity registers in 2016 The GPA supports and contributes towards development in The Gambia through striving to introduce locally sustainable projects in education, health and environment and supporting community lead initiatives. The Gunjur Project Association was established following visitors to The Gunjur Project Lodge who promote community-based tourism in The Gambia.
Jo Austin-Preece - Chair
Jo is a former Cheshire county council youth and development manager overseeing the youth provision in the Chester area.
Jo has been supporting community development and facilitating sponsorship programmes in The Gambia for over a decade.
She is passionate and committed to providing support and guidance regarding education, training and employment.
Pat Keegan-Pools - Trustee
Pat is a former registered nurse who managed the discharge liaison team at a busy hospital in Chester, facilitating patients from the acute hospital into appropriate community services.
Her coordinating and organisational skills are vital to the delivery of our work.
Jenny Ringstead - Trustee
Jenny is a former registered care home manager for older people living in a care setting and was responsible for all aspects of the day to day operations. She is a lead coordinator at the Gunjur Project lodge and implements and assesses all aspect of service delivery.
She has lived in The Gambia for over a decade and supports a number of community-based organisations giving her the knowledge and insight to ensure any activities lead by Gunjur Project Association has the community at the center of all it does.
Sue Clough - Trustee
Sue is the Brand coordinator for KYB Europe.
She has unlimited energy and wealth of knowledge in many areas. She is also a girl guiding leader and her passion for women's development and providing opportunities for personal growth and positive change is tremendous.
Brendan Ringstead - Trustee
Brendan is a qualified youth and detached youth worker and has a passion for encouraging young people to acknowledge their abilities and make positive choices in their lives.
He has lived in the Gambia for over a decade and facilitates a number of youth programmes both in the community and within the classroom. He is our health and safety assessor and work co-ordinator. He leads on all youth and environment projects.
Alagi Bojang - Lead co-ordinator
With over 20 years of facilitating school and youth groups to The Gambia he works to ensure that all projects undertaken are coordinated carefully with the governing bodies such as Village Development Committees and Governmental offices. He is vital to the day to day operations of the Gunjur Project Association.
