Our Projects

It has ever been a dream for me to become a medical doctor from childhood, but this dream of mine seemed rather unlikely considering the financial challenges of my family. I sometimes had to go to school barefoot with no lunch money.

The Gunjur Project stepped in and safeguarded my education. They have sponsored me from my earlier school days until now as I stand here a qualified doctor.

I've always enjoyed reading and having access to the community hub library has allowed me to access a wide range of books.

I have been visiting the community hub for studies using online services for 2 years.

Having this facility has helped my education.

Our community kitchen provides the opportunity for our students to take part in cooking workshops.

Food offers a wealth of opportunities for multidisciplinary education. In social studied, students can learn about the history of global trade and colonization in addition to the basics of economics.

Looking at how food is grown and issues around small-scale versus large-scale agriculture is just one of many links to science education.

Meet Amie: After experiencing some eye irritation, she went for a check-up. After further tests, she was given the daunting news of early glaucoma. She now has daily eye drops and attends monthly appointments to manage her condition.

Amie expressed how scared she was to learn of this diagnosis and worry of the price of eye drops. She expressed her appreciation of the eye project which enables her to get the treatment she needs to keep her vision.

My father died when I was young, and going to school was a challenge for me. I received a sponsorship when in primary school from Gunjur Project and was able to get my uniform, shoes, bag and school resources.

In 2024 I have graduated from school with top results and as nominated head boy. I will continue my studies with my sponsorship and attend university. I want to be a lawyer and help make changes in my country for the better of our people.

The community of Kulukochi requested support to build a pre-school so that children in the area would have access to early childhood education.

Through our sponsors we were able to finance the initial build of the school.

We continue to support and have funded the formal training of several teachers, decorated classrooms, fitted windows, fixed electrics, built a hand wash area, a school kitchen, funded school trips and summer classes and provided many resources.

I lost both my parents at an early age. School was hard, and my results were not great, but I managed to finish grade 10. I got a sponsorship from Gunjur Project Association and was able to attend hotel school.

I had a placement at Kombo Beach Hotel and after my course was finished they offered me a job. I am now in full time employment and able to provide for myself.

I suffered with pain in my neck for many years and eventually I could not sleep properly. Working at the garden was becoming increasingly difficult. I am a mother of 6 children and things were becoming difficult.

The Gunjur Project Association helped me access health treatment. I had to go for scans on my neck that revealed the growth was a goiter. I went for surgery, and after 10 days, I was back home with my family. My husband cried when I arrived home. I am pain-free and able to manage my family again- I have my life back.

Donate to our Emergency Fund

I am the head woman for the womens Kajabang Kafoo. Over the years I have attended many workshops at Gunjur Project Association, including literacy, spoken English, cooking, fruit & vegetable preserving, arts & crafts and First Aid.

Attending these workshops gave me confidence that I could be a change-maker. I have recently been trained and certified by the Ministry of Health as the official village health worker for women in our community.

Our weekend study classes offer a range of educational activities.

Our education advisor Mr Omar K Touray, headteacher of Gunjur Upper School leads on our curriculum lessons.

In addition, we offer extra lessons on topics that affect lives. Here, Alice Gerrard, a junior doctor from the UK, is giving a workshop about diabetes and hypertension. We help build skills to help students have a stronger start in life.
